John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only Son . . . ” (ESV). We are only able to give because God first gave. Giving is an expression of deep love. As believers, we recognize that even our bodies aren’t our own—they are a temple of the Holy Spirit, and we “were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Likewise, our finances are not our own. God has entrusted each of us to steward his blessings well. He calls us to a life of generosity and hospitality, giving in faith of our finances, time, love, compassion, service, and ourselves. We desire to be cheerful givers, giving out of love and worship, and keeping our ears open to the voice of the Holy Spirit as he prompts us to bless others.

“Tithe” means “a tenth.” We give a tenth of our income to God each Sunday. Just as we are called to give as a form of worship, we love to give God the firstfruits of what we have, not the leftovers. Once you are faithfully tithing, consider asking God for faith to give even more.
